Business Intelligence Traineeship

In 2018 I graduated from the EIT Digital Master School. During this highly international experience I majored in Software Services & Architectures at two universities. This part really got me going and eventually culminated in a summerschool in Stockholm where we got to the finals in presenting our idea for an IoT watch.

IoT Summerschool – Internet of Things and Business Transformation
EIT Digital Master School | 2018 2-weeks | Stockholm

Two weeks full of interesting talks and exercises about IoT related innovation. The main assignment for our group was to find and develop a business venture with the potential of exceeding EUR 10 million turnover in 5 years. We came up with BeeBand, an IoT watch for parents to monitor their children. I presented the idea to an external jury and they were quite pleased with the result. After the first presentation they promoted us to the final round to compete with other remaining groups. Unfortunately the competition was heavy so we did not win the finals.

Junction Hackathon | 2017 1-day | Helsinki

First prize – Industrial Internet Challenge. Together with my team (3 people), we developed a prototype for making sustainable choices when buying consumer electronics products. Project can be found on my github.

Military Business Improvement Challenge

Part of a team (4 members) with of task of developing a business proposal to improve the efficiency of the 43e mechanized brigade. Our solution consisted of proven lean six sigma methods to improve the efficiency of operations in peace mode.

Lead Data Engineer

Currently I am employed at the Hogeschool Arnhem Nijmegen in Arnhem, NL. We are designing and building a new data lakehouse architecture in Microsoft Azure using technologies like Azure Synapse Analytics, Apache Spark, Delta Lake and Power BI. This is very new and exciting stuff to be working on. I’m very happy with the opportunity to design and implement these state-of-the-art technologies at the HAN University.

After I finished the Smart Data People Traineeship I started working at ABT B.V. in Velp. During this time I finally got my hands on in designing and implementing some real world systems. I developed the first Data Warehouse (Kimball) for ABT. Also, to feed the DW I created a Django application for the administration of employees within the company. Lastly, I also worked together with two colleagues to create a shareholder certificate administration system in ASP.NET Core. All in all, these were complex and interesting projects to have been working on.

IoT Intern at Kresco

To finish my master program I found an internship at a local company in the Netherlands called Kresco. At the time this company was taking its first steps in IoT prototyping. It was my task to come up with a reference architecture to base future IoT projects on. This architecture needed to be scalable, secure and reliable using technologies that were familiar to the company. I had a lot of fun designing this architecture and also to get some hands-on experience with loading and transforming streaming data from a miniature toilet into spark, kafka, mongodb and the elastic stack (elasticsearch, logstash, kibana).

Webshop Owner

After my travel in Nepal I started this webshop in januari 2016. HIMALAYAN sells fairtrade hemp backpacks made in the rural areas of the Himalayas. Activities vary from webdesign / development to setting up internet marketing campaigns and doing bookkeeping and logistics.

Travelling in Nepal

Travelled for three months through Nepal about half a year after the big earthquake. At the time there were a lot of problems in Nepal – no fuel from neighbour India because of political issues and many people still not having homes. This was quite painful to watch but the himalayas were magical. Anapurna circuit is one of the best things I’ve done in my life and I recommend it to everyone.

Product Owner of scrum team to help solve problems that occured with a new cost per sale payment model. Our work was done correctly and invoices for 2014 could, eventually, be sent succesfully. I also had a significant role in the design and coordination of a company wide migration to netto cpc payment model. Nearly all deparments were involved and many uncertainties needed to be solved. In the end, our thorough preparations paid off and one of the biggest changes in the history of was a fact.
