IoT Summerschool – Internet of Things and Business Transformation
EIT Digital Master School | 2018 2-weeks | Stockholm
Two weeks full of interesting talks and exercises about IoT related innovation. The main assignment for our group was to find and develop a business venture with the potential of exceeding EUR 10 million turnover in 5 years. We came up with BeeBand, an IoT watch for parents to monitor their children. I presented the idea to an external jury and they were pleased. After the first presentation they promoted us to the final round to compete with other remaining groups. Unfortunately we did not win this.

Currently I am employed at Alliander, as part of team Strategic Analyses. We are moving to a new data platform away from SAP HANA. I’m helping realizing this ambition by designing and implementing a modern data stack in AWS, K8S, Snowflake, Dagster, DBT, DLT. It is our task to migrate existing logic in R scripts to dbt models and dagster assets.

From 2021 untill 2023 I was a freelance data engineer for Brabantwater. Kresco (now Hallo) coupled us. First I assisted in further developing a data platform designed by Macaw. Later on, two new engineers joined the team to transition to a more robust stack with Databricks and DBT at its core. It was great to work with them and it has been a great learning experience to work for Brabantwater.

Webdeveloper & Data Engineer

After I finished the Smart Data People Traineeship I started working at the building construction firm ABT in Velp. During this time I developed the first Data Warehouse (Kimball) for ABT. To feed the DW I created a Django application for the administration of employees and knowledge groups within the company. Building the app was much fun. I also worked together with two colleagues to create a shareholder certificate administration system in ASP.NET Core. All these projects were great to work on.
IoT Intern at Kresco

To finish my master program I found an internship at a local company in the Netherlands called Kresco. At the time this company was taking its first steps in IoT prototyping. It was my task to come up with a reference architecture to base future IoT projects on. This architecture needed to be scalable, secure and reliable using technologies that were familiar to the company. I had a lot of fun designing the architecture and also get some experience with the ETL of streaming data. The data was sent from a miniature toilet into spark, kafka, mongodb and the elastic stack (elasticsearch, logstash, kibana).

Travelling in Nepal

Travelled for three months through Nepal about half a year after the big earthquake. At the time there were a lot of problems in Nepal – no fuel from neighbour India because of political issues and many people still not having homes. This was quite painful to watch but the himalayas were magical. Anapurna circuit is one of the best things I’ve done in my life and I recommend it to everyone.
